MUAHAHAHA.
The creepiest time of the year has approached on us again, CAN YOU BELIEVE!
And what else, then baking something Halloween themed, cause I'm stoked for it and it's SO FUNZIES to be standing in the kitchen on a miserable day and making this cute Jack-o'-lantern cake.
One day, my mom came home with a Halloween pumpkin baking mould and I was like: yas girl you know my vibe.
So I thought about what thrilling cake I could make with it. And as I've mentioned in my previous post, I'm so up for Terry's chocolate orange and that's why, my huns, I've chosen for an orange zest chocolate marble cake. I say disco, you say party, disco disco party party (if you know this song then please be my friend).
I still can't believe I made this masterpiece, can someone enrol me for bake off?!
The excitement when cutting the cake to discover how the inside looked like, was unreal. I was so pleased with how it turned out, that marble effect is just so pleasing!
I've used a special pumpkin baking mould for my Halloween cake, but you could also replace it with a normal 20cm round pan if you don't own one.

Orange Zest Chocolate Marble Cake (my own recipe, YAY)
Cake Ingredients:
200g Self Raising Flour
200g Caster Sugar
200g Unsalted Butter
4 eggs
1 Teaspoon Baking Powder
8g Vanilla Sugar
Pinch of Salt
Orange Zest (2 Oranges)
100g Dark Chocolate (melted)
Orange Food Colouring
Buttercream Icing ingredients:
300g Icing Sugar
150g Unsalted Butter
1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
2 Tablespoons Milk
A pinch of Salt
Orange Food Colouring
Green Food Colouring
Decoration:
Chocolate Decoration Pens
Pumpkin Baking Mould
To make the cake:
Later on the recipe, we're diving the mixture in half, but if you want to you can also use 2 bowls and divide the cake ingredients in half.
🕸️ Preheat the oven to 180 Degrees Celsius and Grease your Baking Mould.
🕸️ Melt 100g of Dark Chocolate in a saucepan over a low to medium heat.
🕸️ Mix your Butter with the Caster Sugar, Vanilla Sugar and a pinch of Salt in a bowl.
🕸️ Then Add the Eggs one by one until each egg is well combined into the mixture.
🕸️ Gradually add the Self Raising Flour until fully combined. Add 1 Teaspoon of Baking Powder.
🕸️ Divide the mixture in half and put in a separate bowl.
🕸️ Grate the zest of 1 Orange in each mixture and combine.
🕸️ Pour your melted Dark Chocolate in of the 2 mixtures and fold it in.
🕸️ Add Orange Food Colouring in the other mixture and combine until you get that bright orange cake mixture.
🕸️ Pour the chocolate mixture into the mould until the bottom is covered, then add the orange mixture on top and repeat this process once more. This doesn't have to be neat at all.
🕸️ Using a knife, swoon swirls into your mixture to get that beautiful marble effect.
🕸️ Your cake's now ready to go into the oven! Bake it for around 50 minutes at 180°C.
🕸️ Your cake is ready once a skewer comes out clean. Let your cake cool down before you put the icing on top.
To make the icing :
🕸️ Using a mixer, beat the Butter until it's soft and creamy. and start adding a little bit of Icing Sugar as you go.
🕸️ Add 2 tablespoons of Milk and 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
🕸️ Add a pinch of Salt and beat until everything is combined.
🕸️ Take a dollop of your icing mixing it with the green food colouring and add orange food colouring to the large amount of icing.
🕸️ Once your cake has cooled down, put the icing on top and around the whole cake. Make it smooth and even using a pallet knife, allowing the knife to leave the 'stripes' of the pumpkin.
🕸️ Put in the fridge for a couple of hours until the icing has hardened a little more.
🕸️ To decorate your pumpkin I used chocolate decorating pens, but you could also melt some chocolate if you desire. But be careful, because you have to work very precise to make the eyes and mouth of the pumpkin.
🕸️ Et voilà, your Halloween Jack-o'-lantern cake is ready to shine on your Halloween table!
I am soooo happy with how this turned out, I really feel like a master baker (hold your tits, don't overreact).
But seriously, I'm genuinely so impressed! It's so easy, simple and fun to make and it's a great centrepiece for any Halloween parteeeeeeeeh!
Let me know if you're going to try this out for your Halloween party, or just to eat by yourself. (I mean, I wouldn't recommend it, because hello sugar level.)
Have a creepy Halloween my spooky bats (I just came up with that word and I'm jumping for it).
